Color Hunt is a photo game you play with a small group of people you already
know. It is built so that the least possible amount of information about you
leaves your phone, and this page describes exactly what does.
There is no account
You do not give us an email address, a password, a phone number or your real
name. Signing in creates an anonymous identifier on your device, and the only
thing you choose is a display name and an emoji for your friends to recognise
you by. Neither has to be real.
What we hold
- The display name and emoji you picked.
- Photos you place in a grid, and the blurred version the app makes from each one.
- Photos in your roll — the ones you have taken but not placed. Only you can ever see these.
- Your hunts: which ones you are in, your assigned colour, your guesses, and your votes.
- A notification token, if you allow notifications, so the hunt can tell you when the reveal starts.
What we do not hold
- Your location. Photos are re-encoded before they are uploaded, which does not carry the camera metadata. Where you took a photo stays on your phone.
- Any analytics or advertising data. There is no tracking, no advertising identifier, and no third-party SDK reporting your behaviour to anybody.
- Your contacts, calendar, microphone, or your photo library at large. The app can see the photos you specifically choose, and nothing else.
Who can see your photos
Before the reveal, nobody but you can see a photo you have taken.
Other people in your hunt see a blurred derivative and the four strongest
colours in the shot — never the photograph.
This is enforced on the server, not by the app being polite about it. Until a
hunt reaches its reveal, a request for somebody else's original is refused
outright. After the reveal, the people in that hunt — and only that hunt —
can see the nine photos in each grid. Nothing is ever public, and there is no
feed of other people's hunts.
How long anything is kept
- Photos you never place are deleted when the hunt reveals. They were only ever visible to you, and after the reveal they serve no purpose.
- Deleting a hunt removes it and every photo in it, for everybody, permanently.
- Leaving a hunt before the reveal takes your grid and your photos with you. Leaving afterwards keeps your grid in the results, because other people's votes refer to it.
- Your own full-resolution photos stay on your device for 60 days so exports are sharp, then are removed automatically.
Where it is stored
On Supabase, hosted on Amazon Web Services in the United States. Photos and
data are transmitted over encrypted connections.
What you can do
- Leave any hunt from its settings.
- Delete a hunt you started, which erases it for everyone.
- Turn off notifications in iOS Settings at any time.
- Delete the app, which removes everything held on your device.
- Ask us to erase what remains — write to us and we will.
Children
Color Hunt is not directed at children under 13 and we do not knowingly
collect information from them.
Changes
If this policy changes in a way that affects what we collect or who can see
it, we will update the date above and say so in the app.
